During 1960s, this building was in danger of being demolished because of the City's decision, but thanks to the community's protest, this historic treasure was saved  48 hours before its scheduled demolition.

The Boathouse has received a lot of renovations, for example in 1971 it received a new terra cotta façade which later was proved to be not water resistant, and because of the water damage it had to close at 1997 July. In 1999 a $5 million renovation started and finished in 2002, which made the building cleaned, repaired and updated entirely, whether the wood frames resistance or the mechanical and electrical systems.

Another thing to mention is that a lot of people decide to celebrate their wedding in the Boathouse, which is really romantic and special for the bride and the bridegroom as well as for the guests, but the prizes to book the BoatHouse, however, are not that romantic. According to Bored in Brooklyn, the prices are "ranging from $2000 (for a Tuesday to Friday 4-hour afternoon wedding in November to April) to $4500 (for a Saturday 5- hour evening wedding in the peak wedding months)". It is a beautiful place and one of the first Buildings to be named Historical Landmark in the city of New York, so consequently, the prices to rent it are as special as the building is.

The Boathouse of the Prospect Park is probably one of the most special buildings in New York. Not like the rest buildings the Boathouse, as its name says, is an architecture which floats in Lullwater’s eastern edge, which provides a vantage point for lovely sunset views over the water.

Landscape architects Olmsted and Vaux built the original Boathouse in 1876 as a rustic canopied structure on piers straddling the north end of the Lullwater. In 1905, this first Boathouse was replaced with the current Beaux Arts style building, which designers are Frank J. Helmle and Ulrich Huberty. Its design's inspiration was the lower story of Sansovino’s Library of St. Mark, which is built in 16th-century Venice. The white matte-glazed terra cotta facade is adorned
